Alkaline phosphatase (ALP) is an enzyme found in many tissues — especially the liver, bones, and digestive system. It plays an important role in bone growth and liver function. A normal ALP range for adults is usually 30–130 IU/L, though it can vary depending on age, gender, and even race.

When ALP levels are higher than normal, it may signal problems with the liver, gallbladder, bones, or even the kidneys. That’s why paying attention to your diet is important — because certain foods can worsen the problem, while others may help bring your enzyme levels back into balance.

Foods to Avoid

1. Zinc-Rich Foods

Uncontrolled high ALP can be linked to liver damage, gallstones, bone disorders, or even certain cancers. On the other hand, very low levels may indicate malnutrition, zinc deficiency, or rare conditions like hypophosphatasia.

Keeping your diet balanced — and working with your doctor or dietitian — is the best way to manage ALP levels naturally, along with any medical treatment needed.
